Insist on a “Certified” Gemologist For accurate prices

When it’s time to sell your diamond jewelry near Sacramento, you have many options. Pawnshops, jewelry stores, Gold buyers, and independent jewelers all over the world are willing to buy fine jewelry. The hard part isn’t finding a buyer. It’s finding the right buyer.

If you want to be sure you’re getting the absolute best deal, you should always choose a certified gemologist. But what makes a gemologist an expert, and why should you sell jewelry to one?

What Does A Gemologist do?

Certified gemologists have extensively studied gemology (the study of gemstones) at institutions like the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), where they can earn a Diploma to demonstrate their expertise. Being A Certified Gemologist, You are re-tested annually to be sure you are up to date with modern gemstone enhancements, pricing and grading techniques. This allows them to identify, grade, and appraise diamonds and other gemstones with the utmost expertise.

Identifying Diamonds & Other Gemstones

It doesn’t take an expert to tell the difference between a diamond and a ruby, but some gemstones are almost identical. Peridot and Idocrase look incredibly similar, for example. These “minor” differences can mean thousands of dollars difference in value.

With the introduction of gem quality synthetic diamonds into the marketplace, you must be very critical and informed when purchasing a diamond. We can identify synthetics and enhancement techniques commonly found undisclosed. If you have purchased a diamond and would like a neutral third-party evaluation, we can help.

A certified gemologist knows how to use special tools to determine a gemstone’s true identity.

Grading Diamonds & Other Gemstones

Gemologists also grade diamonds and other precious stones based on their quality. They typically use the common “4 Cs”:

  • Carats (weight)
  • Cut
  • Color
  • Clarity

In general, rarer diamonds and gemstones receive a higher grade. So, one that is heavy, well-cut, and high clarity with a high color grade is considered superior and will receive a high grade. A good gemologist takes all of those factors into account when examining a piece of jewelry.

Appraising Diamonds & Other Gemstones

One of the most important things gemologists do is appraise jewelry — they’ll be able to tell you what your item is truly worth. The best gemologists will consider the maker or designer of the piece, the quality of the materials, and the marketplace demand for the item.

Because they know so much about identification and grading, they’ll be able to give you a more accurate appraisal than someone less knowledgeable.

Why sell to a Gemologist?

There’s no doubt that gemologists are the most highly regarded experts in their field, but does that make them the best people to trust with your diamond jewelry?

It is our belief that the most experienced and qualified jewelry buyer is the best one. If you have precious jewelry, you don’t want to let go of it until you feel sure your jewelry buyer has given you a fair offer based on a thorough examination of the piece.

It’s a terrible feeling to sell your jewelry at a low price, only to find out later that it was worth much more. Working with a competent, trustworthy gemologist takes that worry out of the equation.

What is meeting with a Gemologist like?

Every gemologist has a slightly different process, but meeting with our Gemologist is a much different experience than the one you’ll get at your average jewelry store, pawn shop, or gold buyer.

When you work with us, we’ll set up an appointment with you at our private, secure office. There you’ll meet one-on-one with our Certified gemologist, who will walk you through the evaluation and appraisal process so you’ll know exactly how we form our offer.
